THERE ARE SEVERAL CHOICES TO MAKE IN SELECTING POSTS FOR YOUR CABLE RAILING PROJECT. TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT POSTS YOU NEED TO KNOW A FEW THINGS:
Q1 What's a Terminal Post?
A1 Terminal Posts are the posts that handle the brunt of the load from the Cable and fittings. They are only needed where the End Fittings are attached.
Q2 What's an Intermediate Post?
A2 Intermediate Posts are the posts that go in between the Terminal Posts. The cable merely passes through these, and they hold no load.
Q3 What's Deck Mounted?
A3 Deck Mounted means it's mounted on the top, or surface of where the railing system is being installed.
Q4 What's Fascia Mounted?
A4 Fascia Mounted means it's mounted to the fascia board, or side of where the railing system is being installed.
Q5 Why would I want Undrilled?
A5 Undrilled posts can be drilled on site to accommodate angled holes for instances like stairs, or if you don't need holes drilled 3in on center.
Q6 Why do I need to cut the on site?
A6 Posts are manufactured in the most customizable configurations. Top Rail or Handrail varies in height, we assure no matter what height the rail, the posts work for your project. For an additional fee, we absolutely can cut them to height for you.
Q7 I get all of that, but how many Posts do I need?
A7t Terminal Posts are easy, for each set of fittings (that's both ends with cable in the middle), you need a set of Terminal posts, so 2 for each start and stop of the cable. Shown in the example below by SOLID BLACK SQUARE SYMBOL
A7i Intermediate posts are a little harder. In order to effectively tension the cable without too much stress on the fittings or the posts, you need to place them no more than 5ft on center (OC). Example: A 23ft length requires a terminal post on each end, and 4 intermediate posts. Shown in the example below by HOLLOW BLACK SQUARE.
A7s Stairs require a post top and bottom. Intermediate posts are used if the stairs are over 5ft in length. In the image below the Terminal Stair Posts are SOLID GREEN SQUARES, while Intermediate Stiar Posts are HOLLOW GREEN SQUARES.
